The Blue Prosperity Plan recognises that the ocean is the cornerstone of Bermuda’s culture, and that its health is vital to maintain our livelihoods, tourism industry, food security, and climate resilience – for both current and future generations.
During the 2022 public consultation, hundreds of Bermuda residents provided feedback on what they felt were the most important issues regarding the best uses of the local marine environment, and how to protect and sustainably manage its resources.

Maritime Enforcement
The Blue Prosperity Plan will coordinate and focus resources for enforcement to help protect against pollution, illegal, unreported & unregulated fishing, and other environmental damage.

Blue Economy
The Blue Economy Strategy outlines the approach for optimising Bermuda’s blue assets for sustainable economic growth in key sectors that create job opportunities and support local entrepreneurs.

Licensing & Monitoring
Updating fisheries licensing and improving fisheries monitoring will help ensure sustainable commercial and recreational fisheries. Monitoring the environmental and socio-economic effects of the marine spatial plan will help improve future versions.

Proposed Maps for Marine Protected Areas
The proposed network of marine protected areas in Bermuda’s nearshore waters will help sustainably manage marine resources, enhance ecosystem health, and support a more resilient ocean-based economy while reducing user conflict.
