OUR TEAM

The BOPP team is based in Bermuda with international support from the Blue Prosperity Coalition and Waitt Institute. Our program is led by the Government of Bermuda in partnership with staff from the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences. Our program is collaborative and will work closely with local and international organizations, ocean stakeholders, and the public to make a comprehensive plan for future ocean health in Bermuda.

Cheryl-Ann Mapp, Blue Economy Specialist

Cheryl manages Blue Economy and development for the Bermuda Ocean Prosperity Programme. She was a former Compliance Officer with the Department of Environmental Protection where she managed the Fisheries and Animal Wardens teams, advised on environmental compliance issues and facilitated relevant environmental advisory board meetings.

Sarah Brooks, Marine Spatial Planning Specialist

As MSP Specialist, Sarah will bring her technical and programmatic experience to BOPP to provide strategic support and overall guidance for the design and implementation of the Marine Spatial Plan. She previously worked as the Senior Conservation Specialist at the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust in the UK. She has spent the last three years consulting on various research projects as she sailed around the world, visiting over 30 countries.

Ali Hochberg, Outreach Manager

As a part-time Outreach Manager, Ali supports the Communications Team by providing copywriting and copy-editing support for a broad range of communications assets. She assists the Waitt Institute and the BOPP Site Team in developing and implementing communications plans and stakeholder engagement strategies. Ali also works as a science writer, research technician, and webmaster for the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences.

Noelle Young, Programme Associate

Noelle Young, local Progamme Associate, supports the BOPP site team, Science Committee, Steering Committee, stakeholder groups, and BOPP Administration to ensure timely communication and effective engagement in program activities. Noelle has a strong background in aquaculture and fisheries, with a focus on the early-life stages of fishes, crustaceans, and mollusks; reared within innovative recirculating aquaculture systems that incorporated low head technologies such as mixed bed bioreactors, diffused aeration basins, and low head oxygenation within a compact footprint for modern high-efficiency solutions. She formerly interned for the Bermuda Department of Environmental Protection and the Oceans Research Institute of South Africa, and was employed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, as well as Marine Harvest.

Fae Sapsford, Communications Manager

As a part-time Communications Manager, Fae supports the Communications Team in a broad range of communications assets. She is a Bermudian science communicator and runs her own science communications focused Instagram account, @Sargassogirl. Fae is currently pursuing a PhD in Maritime Affairs at World Maritime University. She has a BA in English with Creative Writing from the University of Nottingham and an MPhil in Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celtic from the University of Cambridge, and her dissertations for both degrees were ocean-related. She has also completed a post-graduate diploma in law.
