Outreach Manager

Do you care about Bermuda’s ocean and want to make a difference? The Bermuda Zoological Society is seeking to contract an Outreach Manager for the Bermuda Ocean Prosperity Programme (BOPP), an exciting initiative resulting from the partnership of the Waitt Institute with The Government of Bermuda’s Ministry of Home Affairs and Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS). 

 

About BOPP
Through this partnership, Bermuda will create a binding ocean plan to sustainably manage and grow ocean industries while at the same time preserving 90,000 square kilometers of Bermuda’s waters. Reporting to the Waitt Institute and the Government of Bermuda, the Outreach Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the program advances in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the programmatic goals and work plan. Additionally, the Contractor will play a critical role in BOPP’s planning and implementation, maintaining open lines of communication amongst partners and the public. 

The Contractor will work with the BOPP Team to develop and implement a communications strategy that uses traditional and social media, stakeholder engagement, partner development, events, youth outreach, and other activities to highlight BOPP as a critical tool for the to benefit all of Bermuda through the sustainable growth of Bermuda’s marine activities, resources, and the economy.

The position demands a diverse set of skills and high flexibility about job responsibilities and day to day tasks. Qualified candidates should have project management, strategic communications, and stakeholder engagement skills. The ideal applicant will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage relationships with stakeholders from government, communities, NGOS, academia, and the private sector to foster collaborative and coordinated work that addresses the priorities of Bermuda as articulated in the Blue Prosperity Plan.

  • Understand complex concepts related to marine science or blue economy and translate this information into public outreach materials educating about the Blue Prosperity Plan.

  • Guide and implement BOPP project activities as discussed and delegated by BOPP Administration to ensure that the Programme advances as planned.

  • Design and implement an ongoing Communications & Engagement Strategy.

  • Help in the facilitation of the stakeholder engagement process for BOPP and Blue Prosperity Plan implementation.

  • Build and maintain BOPP’s media presence, supporting media outlets such as radio, newspaper, and social media. This includes the development of and participation in communications content (radio ad, videos, social media tiles, etc.)

  • Provide leadership to best navigate programmatic engagement, community outreach and engagement, and decision-making.

  • Support public affairs and diplomacy related to BOPP, including serving as a key contact with stakeholders, community leaders, the Steering Committee, and the public.
